Q: What happened when you tried to cancel?
Davis: We immediately tried to cancel the contract after we realized we had been misled. We even prepared a rescission letter, but we sent it in just one day too late. Wyndham wouldn’t let us out of the contract, which left us feeling completely stuck.
Marlene: That’s when the nightmare truly began. We started paying monthly fees on top of the maintenance fees, and the costs just kept climbing. It felt overwhelming, and we didn’t know where to turn for help.
Davis: Boy, they got us, and they got us good! I didn’t think we were ever going to get out of that timeshare.
Marlene (with tears in her eyes): Me neither. We paid on that thing for over a year, every time I saw that auto draft I cried and prayed and truly didn’t know what to do. I felt so stuck. It was an absolutely horrible experience. I pray no one has to go through what we went through.
Q: So, what happened next?
Marlene: Well, we posted a complaint with the BBB, which Wyndham ignored. We canceled the payments with our credit card company, only to have our credit card company side with them instead of us. We even filed a report with Texas Attorney General, but nothing worked. They just kept charging us every month and we’d explain that we felt that we were tricked and they just ignored us.
Davis: Makes me wonder how many folks at Wyndham actually want to be with that company and how many just don’t realize that they have a way out.
